All new staff members shall be hired for a probationary period of 60 days. This probationary period shall be an appraisal period, the satisfactory completion of which shall be the basis for continued employment. The new employee shall be assisted in every reasonable way to adjust to his/her job and learn the tasks required. The performance of the probationary employee shall be evaluated before the end of the probationary period and at least annually thereafter.
If at any time during the probationary period the employee fails, in the judgment of his supervisor, to demonstrate sufficient ability to do the work assigned or otherwise appears to be unsuited for the position the supervisor shall recommend termination through regular administrative channels. The probationary employee shall be told that such recommendation has been made and the reasons therefore but shall not be entitled to formal hearing procedures.
