(Continuing Contract Status)

Continuing contract status shall be granted to a certificated staff member upon completion of three consecutive years of service in the district and reappointment for the fourth year. This same status shall be granted a teacher who, having achieved continuing contract status in another district, without lapse of time, completes two consecutive years of service in this district and is reappointed by the Board for a third year.

Prior to a teacher receiving continuing contract status, he/she shall be considered an initial contract teacher. Renewal of contracts with staff members during this time shall be at the sole and exclusive discretion of the Board. However, during this period (as well as thereafter), the teacher shall be given leadership assistance, guidance, and every opportunity to succeed by the administrative and supervisory staff.

Teachers who have not been continuously employed by the school district for a period of three years and/or have not signed their fourth contract with the district, will be notified in writing of their re-election or non re-election on or before April 15 of each year. Teachers who have previously signed their fourth contract with the district will be on a continuing contract basis, unless notified in writing to the contrary on or before April 15 of each year. Teachers will give notice of acceptance or rejection of contracts at their earliest convenience, but not later than May 15. Failure to return a contract by this date will result in the position being declared vacant.
