Adoption Date: 12/14/1976
G - PERSONNEL

Work Year

The working year for the teaching staff shall be set forth on the school calendar annually adopted by the Board. The number of teaching days shall conform with the state requirements for the number of instructional days. Additional staff days are a matter of education program needs as well as a condition of employment; therefore, the determination to employ certificated personnel for more than the state-required minimum of teaching days shall be a responsibility of the Board acting upon the recommendation of the superintendent.

Although staff members who have been assigned leadership roles in the schools are expected to be on official duty only for the teacher-employment year, the Board anticipates that they will work as many days as are necessary before and after the school year or during recess periods to carry out the responsibilities of their positions.

The work year of central office administrators and principals shall be as determined by their individual contracts with the Board.

Working Hours

Elementary teachers are expected to be at their respective schools one-half hour before school begins and to be available at least fifteen minutes after classes end each day. Secondary teachers are expected to be available at school during the scheduled class time, including preparation period as well as 30 minutes before school and at least 15 minutes after. It is also desirable that they provide time to confer with individual students as needed to solve individual problems.

The actual daily schedule of staff in each school shall be set by the principal in keeping with this policy, the length of the school day is established by the Board and the opening and closing hours for students as approved by the superintendent.
