B - SCHOOL BOARD GOVERNANCE AND OPERATIONS

During the first regular School Board Meeting after December 1 of each year, the Board of Trustees shall elect from its membership a chairman, a vice-chairman, a clerk, and a treasurer.

The regular meeting shall be called to order by the current chairman, who shall preside over the meeting and conduct any necessary business until a new chairman is elected.

The method of election of officers shall be by voice, unless the Board determines immediately prior to nominations to use another method (such as roll call).  Nominations shall be made from the floor.  For election to office, a nominee must receive a majority vote of the entire Board membership.  Should no nominee receive this vote, the election shall be declared null and void and nominations reopened.

Should an office become vacant between organizational meetings, the Board shall use the method of election set forth above to select a member to fill the vacancy until the next ensuing organizational meeting.

Current practice codified 1978.
